At the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month, Westinghouse Digital says it will debut a new head-mounted "personal display" that can take the place of a TV. The glasses, which contain small LCDs, can display both 2D and 3D content and give the viewer the impression of watching a large projection TV.
The company says the lightweight glasses, which Westinghouse claims have an exceptionally wide field of view, contain optics originally developed for the U.S. military. Recently, Apple applied for a patent for an eyeglass-style wireless head-mounted personal display.
Westinghouse will also unveil a new line of LCD TVs with LED backlights, which range in screen sizes from 22 to 60 inches. Among the new models will be a Web-connected 46-inch set that offers Internet apps and access to streaming movies from Netflix and Vudu, and a 60-inch, 120Hz set. This year, the company moved to an all LED-backlit lineup.
We'll be stopping by Westinghouse's exhibit at CES to bring you more details about the glasses and the company's new LCD TV lineup.
